Civilizational Futures:
A New Assignment for Futures Researchers?

19:00   Welcoming Reception and Registration at Hotel Elsass, Bollwiller, France.

June 5th, 2009
08:30   Gather and Register over coffee. (Most will have registered at the Welcoming Reception. Participants will have had breakfast in their hotels.)
09:00   Welcome by the President of the WFSF - Fabienne Goux-Baudiment
09:10   Introduction of all persons in the room - Ruben Nelson, Seminar Chair
09:15   Overview of the Day - Seminar Chair

09:20   Issue #1: "What evidence is there for the need for and emergence of conscious evolution and global mindset change? What might be involved in conscious co-evolution beyond Industrial Civilization? Each panelist will offer a few stimulating ideas to set up the group discussions.

  • Rakesh Kapoor, Director, WFSF: "Global Mindset Change"
  • Patrick Corsi, Associate Professor, Innovation, University of Angers, France "Re-Mapping Our Minds to See Our Changing Future"

10:00   Round 1 of a Conversation Café (Participants gather in groups of four.)
10:20   Round 2 in new groups
10:40   Round 3 back in the original group

11:00   Break and groups put their sheets up on the walls
11:30   Group Reports and Plenary Discussion

12:30   Lunch

13:30   Issue #2: What contribution could we - the global community of scholarly researchers, teachers and practitioners of futures and foresight - make to this new work? Are there one or more meta-projects we might articulate and develop? What particular projects seem to be implied? Who might be our Partners? Our Sponsors?

13:40   Small Group conversations: to (a) identify a range of possible research topics; and (b) explore/outline one project of their choice.
15:00   Break: each group puts its key ideas up on the wall.

15:30   Reports from each group followed by plenary discussion.
16:30   Forced choice ranking of the main projects offered by the groups.
16:40   Call for interest in the research that pursues these issues.

16:45   Reflections on the day and the work we have done.
17:00   Adjourn
19:00   "Seminar/General Assembly Dinner" -- for all participants in the Seminar and/or the GA.
